6-Year-Old’s Passport Rejection Over Game of Thrones-Inspired Name, In a puzzling twist, a UK passport application for a 6-year-old girl named Khaleesi Holloway was rejected due to issues surrounding her name. The application faced rejection because Khaleesi’s name is linked to a trademark owned by Warner Brothers, the studio behind the popular TV series Game of Thrones.

Khaleesi’s Name Causes Passport Trouble

Khaleesi Holloway, named after the iconic character Daenerys Targaryen from the Game of Thrones series, was initially informed by the UK Passport Office that her application could not be processed. According to the authorities, her name, which is a trademarked term, posed a problem for issuing the passport.

Khaleesi’s mother, Lucy Holloway, expressed her frustration after receiving the rejection notice. “I was absolutely devastated,” Lucy, a 39-year-old resident of Wiltshire, said. “We were looking forward to our first holiday together, but then I received a letter from the Passport Office stating that her name is trademarked by Warner Brothers. It was the first I had heard of such a thing – I was astonished.”

UK passport rejection

Lucy sought legal advice to address the issue and discovered that the trademark applied to goods and services, not personal names. This information was shared with the Passport Office. Despite this, the authorities requested a letter from Warner Brothers confirming that Khaleesi could use her name.

“I didn’t understand why a birth certificate didn’t suffice,” Lucy remarked. “I felt frustrated and confused by the whole situation. If the name was an issue, shouldn’t it have been flagged earlier?”

The Passport Office has since issued an apology for the confusion. An official clarified that the rejection was a misunderstanding and assured Lucy that the passport application should now be processed without further issues.

Holiday Plans in Jeopardy

The passport delay has disrupted the family’s plans for a dream trip to Disneyland Paris. With ticket prices rising by £800 due to the delay, Lucy worries that their long-awaited holiday might be canceled. “I’ve been working six days a week to afford this trip, and now it looks like we might not be able to go,” a disappointed Lucy said.

Khaleesi Holloway’s passport issue highlights an unusual clash between pop culture references and bureaucratic regulations. While the Passport Office has apologized for the oversight, the family’s holiday plans remain in jeopardy due to the delays and rising costs. This incident underscores the complexities that can arise when personal names intersect with intellectual property rights, leaving families to navigate unexpected hurdles in their travel plans.
