The Indian government has called an all-party meeting in response to the escalating crisis in Bangladesh. This urgent meeting, scheduled for Tuesday morning, comes on the heels of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and her subsequent flight from her homeland amidst growing unrest.

On Monday evening, Sheikh Hasina, the now-former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, arrived at Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad, near New Delhi, aboard a military C-130 Hercules aircraft. Her departure follows a day of intense violence and upheaval across Bangladesh, where protests have reached unprecedented levels.

The political turmoil in Bangladesh has resulted in significant casualties and widespread destruction. According to reports from Dhaka Tribune, at least 135 people have been killed in violent clashes, including police shootings, mob beatings, and arson attacks. The unrest has seen fierce confrontations between demonstrators and supporters of the Awami League, the political party led by Sheikh Hasina.

On Monday, the situation escalated further when clashes between the police and protesters led to the deaths of 96 individuals. The violence extended to the outskirts of the capital, Dhaka, particularly in the Savar and Dhamrai regions, where at least 18 more lives were claimed.

Prothom Alo, citing sources from Dhaka Medical College Hospital, reported that over 500 people were hospitalized with various injuries, including gunshot wounds. Among them, 70 individuals are in critical condition and are receiving intensive care.

Indian Government Responds

In light of these developments, the Indian government has convened an all-party meeting to discuss the situation and formulate a strategic response. The meeting, scheduled for 10 AM, will see the participation of top Union ministers, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

The purpose of this meeting is to assess the implications of the crisis for regional stability and to coordinate India’s diplomatic and humanitarian response. The sudden escalation of violence in Bangladesh has raised concerns about potential spillover effects into neighboring countries, including India.
