The authorities are on edge, with police distributing posters of Bhat throughout the region and urging the public to provide any information regarding his whereabouts. The disappearance has raised serious concerns about potential new threats, given Bhat’s history and the current security climate.

Recent Terrorist Activity in Jammu and Kashmir

The situation in Jammu and Kashmir has been tense, with a recent spike in terror activities. On July 27, the Jammu and Kashmir Police released sketches of three terrorists responsible for recent attacks in the Doda district. These attacks included an ambush on July 16 in the Urarbagi area of the Dessa forest, resulting in the deaths of an army officer and three soldiers.

In response to these incidents, the police have announced a reward of ₹5 lakh for information leading to the capture of each terrorist. The trio is believed to be moving into the upper reaches of Doda and Dessa, further heightening security concerns.

Government Measures to Combat Terrorism

The central government has been proactive in addressing the rise in terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir. On July 30, a series of measures were outlined to contain and dismantle terrorist operations in the region. These measures include identifying strategic supporters of terrorism, cracking down on terror financing, and enhancing the counter-insurgency grid.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, reiterated the government’s policy of zero tolerance against terrorism. “The government has a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism. The approach of the government is to dismantle the terror ecosystem. Security measures are being strengthened to sustain peace and stability in J&K,” Rai stated..

Strategies and Actions Taken

Detailing the strategies being adopted, Rai highlighted the importance of continuous and sustained actions against terrorists and their support structures. The government is focusing on dismantling the terror ecosystem using a comprehensive approach that includes cracking down on terror financing. This includes the seizure or attachment of properties belonging to terrorists and their associates under relevant laws, and the banning of anti-national organizations.

The recent rise in terror incidents underscores the ongoing challenges in maintaining security and stability in the region. With 28 people killed in 11 terror attacks this year alone, the government’s intensified efforts are crucial to restoring peace and preventing further loss of life.
